Is there a specific course I should take to become a legal nurse consultant?

• Formal training is not required to practice legal nurse consulting. However, each nurse must determine if a structured course is appropriate based on his or her own needs. There are many types of educational programs available. AALNC does not endorse any specific program associated with other organizations. We suggest that you join the Philadelphia Chapter of the AALNC and network with other legal nurse consultants to learn how they have become consultants.

What educational resources are available to learn about legal nurse consulting?

• At each chapter membership meeting, we have an educational presentation, and we hold training seminars periodically. The core text, Legal Nurse Consulting Principles and Practices is an excellent source of information, and is available through both our chapter and the National Organization.  We also have other books and tapes that can help you learn about legal nurse consulting.

How do I join AALNC?            

• Just go to our Membership page! You will find an application that you can print and mail, or you can fill out your application on line. You must be a member of the National AALNC to be eligible for chapter membership.

Do I need to be certified to practice as a legal nurse consultant?

• No. You can practice as a legal nurse consultant without being certified. However, professional certification recognizes an individual's experience and demonstrated knowledge in a profession or specialty. Certification is available through The American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board (ALNCCB). For more information about certification, go to the National AALNC website.
